How to enable MultiWindow on Android Marshmallow!

Boooom! Android M preview is out. For those that already flashed it, there might be a really really cool thing for you to try. In fact, Android M comes with multiwindow. It's experimental but seems to be working. Let's try it out!

  1. Firstly, boot into recovery. Be sure to have a custom recovery, TWRP works the best.
  2. Be sure the /system partition is mounted (Go to mount -> mount the system)
  3. Connect your device to your PC, be sure to have your device recognizable by ADB, type adb devices - your device should pop up. (Don't have ADB? Download here!)
  4. Let's access the build.prop, type the following commands in to the terminal:
adb shell
cd /system
vi build.prop

Let's change a line to enable userdebug mode. Change the line:

ro.build.type=user
to
ro.build.type=userdebug

Reboot your phone. Navigate to developer options in settings (to enable dev options, go to "about phone" and tap on "build number" several times).

Open recents and boom, you have it.

Chainfire's new app "Recently" makes Lollipop multitasking useful back again

There have been some changes in Android Lollipop that may actually be dragging Android down. With the Lollipop release, multitasking - the recents view have become overview and instead of showing all the running apps it shows pretty much everything you've ran in the past few days. And as you know Lollipop recents are kept even when phone reboots, so if you're not clearing the tabs by yourself, you probably have non-stop incoming tabs even when you don't really need them. "Recently" changes this.

As Chainfire describes the app, Recently aims to restore sanity, by limiting which apps are shown. In its most aggressive configuration, it will show you only apps that are actually running right now.

Screenshot 2015 03 10 19 50 06

As you can see on the screenshot above, you can limit the apps by age and also by maximum number of apps listed in multitasking.

In its most aggresive configuration, there will be only running apps shown in multitasking.
What Recently does, is that it hides the other tabs and just doesn't show them in the list. Recently doesn't kill the apps. The app produces no wakelocks, only runs as a BG service.
Definitely a great idea, what do you think?

Lollipop & root access needed.

XMultiWindow - Get Omni ROM Multi-View Feature on your Android device!

OMNI ROM is one of the most used ROMs nowadays also because of one simple, yet extremly useful feature. It's a multi window feature, other words: split view. This feature has also been introduced along with new TouchWiz UI and Samsung Galaxy S4 but now you can get it even on your Android device thanks to this mod!

With this app you won't have to switch between apps to make two things at once! Here are some screens:

Isn't that awesome? And this all can be on your device without flashing! It's because this is a module for Xposed Framework. Don't know what that is? Check THIS post.

While installed the Xposed Framework, dowload the module, activate it and reboot your device to take the effect. The mode should work on all newer versions or Android stock based, MIUI, AOKP or CyanogenMod.
